The Lure of the Gap Year

Time Out or Burn Out for the Next Generation from Harvard Admission Office

Taking Off
A service for students who are taking time off from
the traditional classroom to pursue experiential learning.

Taking Off
A process designed to help students clarify interests, define goals, identify options and implement a meaningful and well thought out plan.

Taking Off
Taking responsibility for your future

Taking the time to figure out where you are going

Taking the time to figure out why

The difference between stopping out and dropping out is the ability to create a meaningful and well thought out plan.

Over the years we have been asked for some examples of the many different opportunities that exist for someone deciding to take time off. Most of our clients are students with little experience outside of school. While some of the options described in this section might have certain criteria (age, cost, level of education, language, etc.) that make some students ineligible, the experiences described are ones that most graduating high school seniors can do.

Using location as an index we have tried to provide you with a wide variety when it comes to both cost and actual responsibilities. Some options offer financial aid but we have left that information out as the requirements are so varied. We hope that the experiences listed below give you an exciting and realistic look at where you could be.Best wishes wherever you journey.
